Global Survey on Women Entrepreneurs Reveals Few Surprising Statistics

Women entrepreneurs are booming and shattering new glass ceilings every day. Despite the challenges and struggles, women are working hard to fight the struggles and create a way for themselves in the professional world. The survey on women entrepreneurs and business statistics reveals some surprising statistics. Let’s find out more about the interesting stats and how women are affected by the entrepreneurship sector.

Number of Women Entrepreneurs

The survey reveals that there are more than 253 million women entrepreneurs out of a total of 582 million. Out of this, 152 million have already been running their businesses. These have been in the industry for the past few years and have made an intense contribution to the country’s economy. It is even believed that women entrepreneurs are innovative and tend to have a unique approach to the problems that businesses face.

Women own more than 36% of small businesses

Technological innovations and advancements are providing an excellent opportunity for women. These are pushing women to step out of their comfort zones and experience new things. The urge to create and learn from exciting experiences is providing women a push to start their own businesses. These numbers are not less when it comes to businesses in the world. Statistics show that women-owned businesses generate about 1.5 trillion dollars in revenue every year.

Female Entrepreneurial Rate in the US is 13.6%

Despite all the initiatives, the female entrepreneurial rate in the US is at 13.6%. If we talk about the entire South Asia, the survey on women entrepreneurs reveals that less than 20% of entrepreneurs exist. The numbers are shocking and indicate how much more work is still needed to help women advance their careers. Most companies have been prioritizing mentorship and guiding women employees to take more leadership roles. It has been found that some women willingly deny the roles because of family and personal reasons. There is a need to encourage and build confidence in women to take business statistics higher.

17% of Black Women Want to Start their Business

Studies by HBR and CNBC show that black women are more likely to start their businesses, especially after the outbreak of COVID-19. Many of them were laid off and did not get the right opportunity after. As a last resort, many turned to entrepreneurship and now lead successful businesses. The current survey on women entrepreneurs reveals that more black women are in the process of starting their own businesses.

On the contrary, the data also reveals a lower percentage of black womenentrepreneurs running mature businesses in the US (at only 3%). They face multiple potential issues in terms of access and resources when it comes to sustaining the business.

Only 2.7% of Women are in ICT Sector

While the number of women entrepreneurs is rising, one should note the areas they are contributing to. Curr*ently, women entrepreneurs are mostly involved in wholesale/retail or other e-commerce platforms. There are also leading women entrepreneurs excelling in the social service sector. The surprising statistic here is to note that only 2.7% of women entreprenezurs in the world are contributing to the ICT sector (Information, Computers, and Technologies). It is one of the sectors which can draw most of the revenue and venture capitalists. Women are slowly taking up roles related to technology and computers. Progress is slow, and there is a need to increase the knowledge of women.

Millions are Employed by Women-Owned Businesses

More than 9 million people in the US receive employment opportunities because of women-owned companies. Women entrepreneurs are not only contributing to society but also helping create equal opportunities for female and male ownership. They are helping bring inclusivity and encouraging others around them to work with the same enthusiasm. Unemployment is one of the biggest challenges for any country. The survey on women entrepreneurs reveals how female leaders are helping resolve it.

The latest estimations even reveal that women-owned companies create direct employment opportunities for more than 27 million people in India. The numbers vary from country to country. It is predicted that women entrepreneurs can help create more than 130 million job opportunities by 2030. The only condition is that the business should have reached the scaling stage and be healthy.

Women Entrepreneurs Are Optimistic

The survey on women entrepreneurs by EY reveals that women leaders are optimistic post-pandemic. Whether it comes to seeking capital for the expansion of the business or selling the business, women entrepreneurs, tend to have a positive approach. This quality can be attributed to a woman’s natural beliefs and how empathetic they are. The optimistic approach and a positive attitude are what help women entrepreneurs grow to another level, despite the pandemic and other challenges.

These are some of the statistics on female entrepreneurs in the US and the world. The survey on women entrepreneurs reveals that women's business growth is high in specific sectors and requires improvement in others. Despite this, women are making enormous efforts to reduce the gaps and fight the barriers to reach the map of success in the entrepreneurial world.
