Jesica Chavez: Helping Latina Women Realize Their Full Potential

Jesica Chavez, the founder of The Latina Success, a platform that empowers Hispanic women with knowledge, mentoring, and inspiration to advance their careers and start businesses. A native of Mexico, Jesica has an engineering background and professional experience in startups and robotics. She moved to the United States where she overcame personal challenges to build a successful career focused on customer success strategies.  

Nurtured by Entrepreneurial Roots  

Born and raised in Mexico into a family of entrepreneurs, Jesica's early years were influenced by the resilience and creativity of her father and brother. "I saw firsthand the ups and downs of starting a business," she says. Her father, despite facing setbacks and even periods of depression, never gave up. He'd take a couple of days to regroup and then bounce back with another idea. "That was something I always loved and enjoyed about my father," Jesica reminisces. Her brother, too, was an ambitious risk-taker who launched four businesses simultaneously just to see which one would stick.  

This early exposure to the ups and downs of business was seminal in shaping Jesica's own entrepreneurial journey. From a tender age, she witnessed the ebb and flow of business, absorbing not just successes but also valuable lessons from failures. Jesica learned failure is not the end but rather an opportunity to learn and try again. This resilience in the face of adversity was a key lesson that would serve Jesica well in her entrepreneurial journey.  

Bucking societal expectations, Jesica became the first woman in her family to earn an engineering degree. Despite skepticism from relatives and even professors, she forged ahead, undeterred by the male-dominated nature of the field. "I was good at everything," she admits, "but I took a year off after high school to figure out what I really wanted to do." Her decision was not based on what was traditionally expected from women but on the career that would offer her the best opportunities. In doing so, she carved out a successful career and shattered the glass ceiling, proving naysayers wrong.  

Turning Adversity into Advocacy  

After running her successful business in Mexico, Jesica moved to the United States with nothing but her entrepreneurial spirit and a student visa to support her ex-husband's dreams. Due to visa restrictions, work opportunities were limited. However, her resilience led her to pitch a remote service division to her former boss in Mexico. Jesica not only built the remote department but also provided jobs for people with disabilities, often overlooked in the traditional employment sector in Mexico.  

While pursuing her MBA in the U.S., Jesica started advising startup founders who were intrigued by her unique experience bridging engineering and business. Jesica worked her way up at startups, translating between technical and non-technical teams. Later, she brought her cross-functional skills to the robotics industry, where she excelled at explaining complex robotic concepts to customers in simple terms that clearly conveyed the business value.  

Though Jesica was thriving professionally, she faced profound personal challenges, including divorce and pregnancy loss. Jesica credits her family, friends, and mental health support for getting her through these dark times. She also found purpose in helping other women going through similar hardships launch their careers. Jesica realized her diverse experience could empower other Hispanic women new to the startup and tech worlds.
