Jessica Richey is a certified professional resume writer, career strategist, and motivational speaker who helped more than 2,000 clients from the IT and financial sectors overcome imposter syndrome, enabling them to communicate effectively and enter their dream careers. She has a bachelor's degree in Speech and Communication from Fayetteville State University, and she has a master's degree in Business Administration from Phoenix University. In addition, Jessica is the founder of Richey Workforce Development, the woman behind the Richey Workforce Inspires Podcast, and author of ‘The Secret to Writing a Powerful Resume Course.’
Early Days
Since her childhood days, Jessica has been very passionate about communication. As a child, she frequently traveled with her family to district functions, where she served as a volunteer. At these functions, she made presentations and spoke on several issues. "I always loved to speak, communicate with people and share information," Jessica told WomELLE.
Later, when she was studying communications, her uncle asked her what she wanted to be in life one day. She told him that he loves networking and connecting with people. In response, her uncle told her that she should always communicate regardless of the industry she worked in.
Career
Jessica started her career at a free day school and excelled in communication. There she met her mentor, who shaped her career. She wanted to communicate with people and share her information with them. "Unless you communicate with others and share the information or resources you have, they are of no use," said Jessica.
When asked what led her to launch her own business, Richey Workforce Development, Jessica said she doesn't see it as a business. For her, it is fulfilling her passion. It is living a dream that she has always dreamed of. She wants to help people get their dream job with the experiences she acquired over the years.
Birth of a Dream
Jessica's passion has been to communicate with people and help them. As a certified resume writer, she now helps them join the careers they desire to. Thousands of people have lost their jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic and are now finding it challenging to resume their careers. Similarly, many people are stuck in their careers or struggling with careers they didn't desire. She says that she is helping them to get their careers on track.
"I can't sit with the information and resources I have, " added, “I need to inspire and help such people.”
Talking about her services, Jessica said when a person wants to get a job he/she desires, they need to prepare themselves for an opportunity. It is important to know what you desire and what your strategy is. Your resume is a part of your strategy. It talks about your skills, experience, desire, and mindset. At Richey Workforce Development, Jessica and her team give them confidence with a powerful resume and hold their hand to get their desired job.
Secret Behind a Powerful Resume
When asked the secret behind a successful resume, Jessica says each individual has different skills and desires. Their experiences, too, are different. While looking for a job, most people fail to highlight their strengths in their resumes. They may have everything necessary for their desired job, but everything is inside them. They don't know how to present their attributes properly. Richey Workforce Development helps them to put their strengths on their resume to ensure that they get the maximum opportunity and succeed in their mission to get employed.
Aside from helping candidates to prepare powerful resumes, Richey Workforce Development also prepared them to face interviews. “One needs to have a strategy and be prepared for the opportunity when it comes. We help people by building their confidence and preparing them for their interviews.”
Aside from a powerful resume, proper networking also helps get the desired jobs. LinkedIn is a powerful networking site, and it gives the interviewer a perspective of the candidate they are looking for, she adds.
Motivational Speaker
As a motivational speaker, Jessica encourages people to remain focused and positive. "Never underestimate yourself or any opportunity. Always remain prepared for any opportunity that may arise. And never feel dejected if you fail in your interview; rather utilize it as a learning curve to emerge stronger next time," she says. She also tells people that they are not alone in searching for their desired job. Richey Work Development is with them at every step. At the same time, she advises people to market their skills properly.
