Krystal Yates: Leveraging Goals to Land Your Dream Job

Most people feel stuck, directionless, or limited by themselves or their environment when it comes to their work life. Most people do not love their jobs but do them only for the sake of a paycheck. Feeling stagnant at work and not knowing what to do to refuel that fire is a sign that you need help. Enter career coaches who will help navigate a roadmap to advance your career. Krystal Yates, founder, and CEO of EBR Consulting, LLC, professional resume writer, and career consultant, has been helping job seekers or working professionals take the next steps in their career, from negotiating the salary to building their profile in such a manner that it reflects what their dream job requires.

The Journey

Early in her career, Krystal worked with many small businesses in Dallas, where she managed the responsibilities for HR, Operations, Finance, and Management. Being a certified HR expert with a background in Human Resources and Operations, she has been working with job seekers since 2010, primarily assisting clients in all aspects of job searches, including resume writing, networking, and interview preparation. Additionally, she helps job seekers with LinkedIn profile reviews, career coaching, and cover letter review. Krystal is also the official member of the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches as well as the American Association of Notaries.

Inception of EBR

Krystal started EBR (Expect Better Results) in 2015 to help small businesses create a solid human resources foundation on which they could grow and become more successful. The mission of the company is to take a complicated process and make it easier for the company to have the best outcome possible as well as help job seekers navigate difficult waters to land the right job.

From resume writing to interviews, negotiating compensation, and working towards promotions, EBR helps professionals take ownership of their careers. She further equips people with the proper tools and the right words to help them negotiate in the right manner. In her experience, 70 percent of the recruiters expect the jobseekers to negotiate, but the latter are not aware of this fact. Therefore, education and knowledge are the keys to grabbing the right opportunities. Besides being a guiding force for job seekers, Krystal also helps military veterans find work in Corporate America. EBR is one of the few organizations in the United States that helps veterans find their way back into the civilian world.

Landing Your Dream Career

In September 2018, Krystal published her debut book, The Insider’s Guide to Your Dream Career, which walks a reader through the best practices for landing a dream job or renewing the career trajectory. In her opinion, too often, when we are searching for jobs, we tend to tap into the easiest next position, but Krystal insists on investing in the right job rather than getting another one. She has published a new version of the book wherein she has added another chapter on video interviewing since it has gained more prominence due to the pandemic.

Krystal also mentors aspiring entrepreneurs who want to quit the corporate rat race and build their own businesses. Depending on the requirement, she provides both one-on-one and group coaching. The coaching is provided through SCORE, which is the sister organization of the Small Business Association. She is the Senior Human Resource Professional and has received a certification from Society for Human Resources and Management.

Keep Moving

Krystal has a philanthropic side to her and loves to give back to the community. She serves on the board of the Feral Friends Community Cat Alliance and volunteers with DallasHR. She is also a Trustee for The Longhorn Group of Charities Unit Accounting Trust. Going forward, Krystal wants to engage in more speaking opportunities and keep impacting lives.

In a word of advice to the women entrepreneurs out there, Krystal suggests that they should push through adversities even if they find themselves questioning their abilities. “Fake it till you make it. Also, ignore the excuses, and just because it was slow or stagnant does not mean that you are not growing. Keep going forward, and you will get there. Be persistent and walk away from the people who tell you that you cannot do it,” Krystal said while speaking with WomLEAD Magazine.
