Mimika Cooney: Reprogram your Mindset to Transform your Life

Plaguing the workplace these days, burnout is a serious problem. According to studies, women report higher levels of burnout than men. Many reasons have been attributed to this trend, including gender inequality in the workplace that hugely impacts occupational mental health. Women were found to have lower levels of decision-making authority and were often overqualified for their roles. This led to less satisfaction at work and the fear that they had fewer career alternatives. Therefore, to better adapt to stressful workplaces, it is critical for women leaders to get a clear understanding of burnout. If you are feeling physically and mentally exhausted all the time, it is time to seek the help of a mental health professional. Mimika Cooney, a faith-based Mindset Metacog Trainer, Leadership Consultant, and founder of Unstick Your Mind (TM), helps women identify the patterns of burnout and rewire their minds to unlock optimal performance.

When it All Started

Mimika grew up in South Africa in the 80s and was exposed to entrepreneurship early on as her father was a businessman, and she first worked for him doing general secretarial jobs and later as an assistant to a TV director. Fascinated by the industry as she was artistic and loved photography, Mimika went on to become a television host while starting an internet company with her husband. She then dabbled in several endeavors, like starting her photography business and running a digital branding agency that helped authors, speakers, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders build their brands and platforms online.

Although Mimika received many accolades, awards, and success for her work, she faced the demon that possessed many in the workplace: burnout and stress. She realized that without her mental, physical, and spiritual health, all her efforts meant nothing, and she could not be what God intended her to be. Hitting the inherent rock bottom took a major hit on her confidence and passion, but it also urged her to reflect upon what she could offer more to the world. Mimika was always a big cheerleader for businesswomen and knew first-hand their challenges and struggles. This aspect instilled a desire in her to speak up about it and be a voice for countless others who faced burnout and breakdown. She delved into understanding how the brain functions, neuroscience, and positive psychology. With a shift in her focus, mission, perspective, and purpose, Mimika took on the path of entrepreneurship again.

Rewiring the Brain for Optimal Performance

Mimika is a Certified DISC Behavioral Analysis Coach and Consultant with having undergone advanced behavioral analysis training. In 2018, she founded Unstick Your Mind (TM) to help high-achieving Christian female CEOs, entrepreneurs, founders, and thought leaders, change their mindsets, develop emotional resilience, and unlock optimal performance by teaching them how to rewire their brains. Through the mindset mastery method, her goal is to equip the clients with the tools to achieve their breakthroughs with this dynamic and transformative training program.

With years of research and knowledge about the human brain, Mimika developed her own signature system based on proven therapy, coaching, and neuroscience modalities by combining neuroscience and a faith-based approach. She helps women regain clarity on priorities and establish better boundaries by delegating where necessary and saying “no” to projects that do not serve them, in the long run, to take care of themselves. In other words, she helps her clients feel aligned with their purpose, gifts, talents, and what makes them feel alive.

Challenging the Status Quo

The pressure on women today is tremendous as they juggle multiple roles. But the tables have turned in the workplace as the new generation is more self-aware and demands a better work-life balance, shunning the age-old “hustle till you drop” mentality. Knowing when to push and when to pause is key. Hence, it has become important for leaders to know when it's time to step back and when to reassess and recover so that they can be better versions of themselves and lead by example.

Be it established women running businesses or those aspiring to start out, Mimika wants to believe that they can do it. “When you have a clear vision of where you want to go, you will be able to figure out the steps that will take you there. Many will tell you that you are not good enough but what is more important is your self-belief and a positive mindset. When you align yourself with your God-given purpose, say yes to that calling to greatness, and take steps towards it," Mimika added.
