The lead-up to the International Podcast Day on September 30 was nothing short of eventful and informative. Three days of panel discussions and one-on-one interviews on various aspects of entrepreneurship with eminent people from different walks of life were conducted by the author, speaker, and podcaster Margo Lovett on her channel, Her Business Her Voice Her Conversation. The panel discussion on September 27, titled Global Women with a Mic, featured Gemma Serenity, host of the podcast The Real Talk Real Women - Breaking the Silence Around Abuse, Allegra Sinclair, host of the podcast The Your Confident Self, Dr. Pat Sanders, host of the podcast This Prof Life and, Laila Noort, host of the podcast The Office Memo. Another interesting interview that took place on September 28 was with Bro. Bedford, host of the podcast Conversations with Black Millionaire Entrepreneurs podcast where gave valuable insights on podcasting as a business.
The celebration of women and African-American podcasters continued on September 28 with Naghilia Desravines, Founder and CEO of WomELLE and Editor-in-Chief of WomLEAD Magazine. The discussion explored the business of podcasting through the eyes of the trailblazing woman entrepreneur who also hosts a weekly podcast named Female Founders, which explores the lives of women business owners up close. Naghilia highlighted how, from a business point of view, podcasting could be an incredible marketing tool since her own podcast is an extension of her work that highlights the lives and stories of women entrepreneurs across different segments of society.
On September 29, the celebration continued to include a discussion on podcasting, media, and entrepreneurship. Deborah Thorne, or ‘ Information Diva ’ as she is popularly known, graced the episode and spoke at length with Margo about how to add a podcast to enhance business in terms of branding and marketing. She threw light on how integrating a podcast into business can help you earn more money even while you are sleeping, in addition to giving you authority. The podcast is just another tool in Deborah’s arsenal as she comes live on different social media platforms and reaches out to the targeted communities to build her network, which is crucial for any business to thrive and succeed.
Media Optimization professional and host of the podcast Media Boss, Dr. Barrett Matthews was the next guest on Margo’s one-on-one session on September 29. An authority on media, execution, productivity, and podcasting, Dr. Matthews shed some light on how media is a tool and an integral part of taking any business forward. His podcast empowers and educates on the same lines. He considers media and marketing as “cousins” which lean on each other and stressed how it is important to outsource and not do everything on your own when you are an entrepreneur. “Work on your business rather than working in your business,” Mathews quipped.
Margo said that the celebration and wisdom-sharing would not have been possible without the support of a few entities, including WomELLE, Lena Speights of Small Business Support Network, Patricia Hardy, founder of Prevalent Hope Coaching & Consulting in Maryland, and Melanie Buncham, founder of Ambassador Real Estate Services who acted as sponsors and contributed in their own small way to bring the collaboration to many out there and make it a success.
