Personal Life  

A Birmingham, Alabama native, Toya attained a degree in accounting and finance from Jacksonville State University and started her career as a tax professional in 2013. After working in corporate America for almost five years, Toya got fed up with her 9-5 job and resigned in 2017 to start her own tax firm, Simple Tax Solutions, 2018. She believed she had a greater calling and, for the next six months, worked diligently towards teaching herself how to accurately prepare tax returns, the foundations of business education, solid marketing campaigns, and other aspects. She toiled hard, hired and trained her staff, and created content for other Electronic Return Originators (EROs) on the side to train their employees. Toya’s grit and determination generated her very first six-figure income in the same year.

Toya now leverages her countless hours of research and vast experience in coaching prospective clients to become a successful taxpreneur. In 2019, she launched her tax academy, Mind Your Assets Tax School , an IRS-approved continuing education provider that assists students in becoming proficient in tax concepts such as filing basics, dividends, distributions, and tax deductions. Upon successful completion, the student becomes a Registered Tax Professional with the IRS and receives 40+ IRS accredited CE hours reported to their Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).   

Additionally, Toya’s tax coaching enterprise, LevelUp 2.0 Tax Coaching, and Consulting, mentors and trains tax business owners to help scale their businesses. In partnership with Mind Your Assets Tax School, it allows in-season tax professionals to apply for the paid program and successfully complete training as one of the requirements to open their own Simple Tax Solutions franchise. Toya’s mantra of “Choice is simple!” stems from the fact that she offers an umbrella of services under her brand, and clients do not need to go anywhere else.

Toya’s amazing work has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, she accepted a Congratulatory Certificate of Achievement from Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin's Office in recognition of her honorable achievements. The Road Ahead  

Toya has navigated immense challenges and risen from strength to strength to build her company and network. Besides intending to write eBooks to encourage and support people who want to become tax professionals, she also urges women to share their stories to help other women with limited resources but a strong desire to build their own businesses. “I would say, hang in there! Do not give up and keep going. Continue your research and keep yourself updated with all that is happening around you. As women, we can become unstoppable if we challenge ourselves,” Toya added, while speaking with WomLEAD Magazine.
